Download a PDF profile with a letter from Maykeli
Maykeli lives with five people, including her grandmother and her mother. She is the only person in the family who studies. She lives in extreme poverty, and her original house was destroyed in Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Since then, has lived in a small house that is covered in plastic and aluminum siding. Her mother washes and irons clothes in order to maintain the household and support Maykeli and her two brothers. Her father abandoned Maykeli when she was just born. She is a very active and enthusiastic girl, always willing and ready to help other children in the Learning Resource Center. She is an excellent student in school as well.
