Read-a-thon
READ-A-THON INSTRUCTIONS
- Your school or agency decides on the duration of the Read-a-Thon (2 to 4 weeks) and schedule a kick off date (A SOL representative can be present if needed and geographically feasible).
- We send a complete Read-A-Thon kit with customized master forms to your school/agency. Forms will also be available electronically for the school/agency to customize directly.
- Your school/agency mails a letter to the parents requesting permission for their child to participate in the Read-A-Thon.
- The school/agency performs a kick off assembly; the assembly discusses what Seeds of Learning is, the importance of reading and how the Read-A-Thon works. Students are given kits to take home that include a reading list. We emphasize that there is no door-to-door solicitations. Students are only to speak to friends and family about Seeds of Learning Read-A-Thon.
- The students begin to read and collect pledges (per minute of reading or per book, depending on the age of the student and the school’s or agency’s preference.)
- Students read for the duration of the Read-A-Thon decided upon by the school/agency and Seeds of Learning.
- At the end of the reading period, students collect their pledges and return their kits and their money to their teacher/leader. Seeds of Learning accepts cash and checks or credit card. Alternatively, checks can be made out to the school/agency directly who will then make a lump payment to Seeds of Learning.
- Upon receipt of the checks from your school/agency, Seeds of Learning will issue official tax receipts if requested.
- Results are published on the Seeds of Learning Website.
- Seeds of Learning has the rights to review all printed material prepared or released by the school/agency in connection with the Read-A-Thon.
